In memory of Baci

When our two boys became old enough and responsible enough, my wife, Lena, and I decided it was time for a dog. One day, my wife and sons, Michael and Anthony, came home with the cutest, most loving Bichon Frise puppy. We named him Baci. Boy did we ever love that dog.

But after about two and a half years, we found out that Baci’s liver was failing, caused by too much wheat in his diet. Apparently, dogs cannot process wheat properly, and it can cause restrictions in their liver.

Baci never lived to be six years old. The pain we felt was tremendous. I will never forget that day when Baci died, and the tears that we all shed. We had lost a family member. My wife said, "No more dogs, I don’t want us to go through this pain again."

Our current dog, Mila

Well after a couple of years, and a little convincing from the boys, Mila -- a black Shitz Zhu Poodle -- came home. She is my best friend, and I love her with all my heart and soul. After the loss we felt from Baci, I vowed never to feed Mila anything that contained WHEAT.

However, this was easier said than done. We found that there was a poor selection of wheat-free treats for dogs on the market. Most treats had wheat, chemicals, artificial flavoring, and preservatives listed prominently in their ingredients.

After much research and speaking to many veterinarians, I discovered that not only does wheat cause problems for many dogs, but other common ingredients in dog treats and food (such as corn and soy) are also known allergens to pets. What's worse is that the visible symptoms are sometimes so subtle that they go unnoticed until it is too late.

I wasn't taking any more risks with my dog's health. I decided to make my own treats for Mila: wholesome, free of wheat, corn, and soy, with all natural ingredients, and only vitamins E and C as preservatives. She loved them so much, I decided to start my own company, making natural treats available to all. Hence, Biscuit Bob’s Gourmet Dog Treats began.

We offer five different flavors: Banana Split, Sweet Potato Pie, Three Bean Salad, Cheese, and Peanut Butter. They are available in classic bone-shaped treats. We also offer Cheese and Peanut Butter in bite-sized training treats. We are always testing new flavors, so keep an eye out for more irresistible treats!

Each 10oz bag of Three Bean Salad Bones is made with 2oz of fresh green beans, lima beans, and peas. The Cheese Bones contain approximately 2 ounces of real, imported Parmesan Cheese per 10oz bag. The Peanut Butter Bones contain 2.5 ounces of natural Peanut Butter per 10oz bag. The Banana Split Bones contain 2 ounces of fresh bananas. The Sweet Potato Pie Bones contain 2 ounces of real sweet potatoes.

I personally taste test every batch to make sure it tastes great! And I hope that your best friend enjoys our treats as much as mine does.
